Stoke-on-Trent Born Actress Nominated for an Oscar
Actress Rachel Shenton, from Stoke-on-Trent, has been nominated for an Oscar for a film that she wrote and starred in called The Silent Child. Flashback to 10 years ago, when Inspired Film and Video was founded, and Rachel was presenting some corporate videos for us. Although, she probably wouldn’t even remember us now!
The film was shot entirely in Staffordshire, and directed by her partner Chris Overton. Locations included Caverswall, the village school St Filumena’s Catholic Primary, and Longton Park. Rachel will be representing Staffordshire at the 90th Academy Awards. As a company, we also celebrate and showcase the creative wealth and talent of Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire through being part of the moving image cluster, Platform.
Her film, The Silent Child, tells the story of a profoundly deaf four-year-old girl, who lives a silent life until a social worker teaches her sign language. Everyone here at Inspired Film and Video will have their fingers crossed on Oscar night, hopeful that Rachel will win the award for her hometown.
