A Grand Day Out

We met Curt Di Camillo from – U.S based – Di Camillo Tours when we were working with the Wedgwood Museum on a Heritage Lottery Funded project. A lecturer in architectural history, he is passionate about British history and particularly about British stately homes. His organisation brings over travelling parties from North America, keen to sample our world famous heritage for themselves. As long time advocates for history and heritage based film-making we knew he would be the perfect client for us.

Curt knew he should be using video to gain more customers. He wanted a film, which really captured the grandeur and the spectacle of the tour, but we also wanted to highlight the access Curt was able to get for visitors, arranging dinners and unique insights with heads of the properties for the touring party.

We were confident we could get some great shots of the properties but really wanted to take the films to another level, in order to do this we decided to capture the fantastic Derbyshire countryside and the stately homes at their dramatic best from the air. In order to do this we used a drone to record film footage from the air. Aerial filming is a relatively new but important part of our business so it was great to be able to use the DJI Inspire to get some breathtaking shots, which are used to great effect in the film.

We enjoyed being part of the tour immensely and Curt’s unique access was perfectly illustrated when the owner of the stately home showed the visitors a seal from the thirteenth century, which had been given to the owner of the property by the King, exchanging the land for the owner’s horse! This was a fantastic moment for the visiting American tourists (and us!) who were able to hold in their hands a unique piece of British history.

This was a great film to be involved with combining our love of history and heritage with a great shoot for a really enthusiastic customer. We look forward to the next shoot with Curt and his touring parties.
